For the first time since 2020, the Daytona 500 was postponed due to weather. The race was scheduled for Sunday, but after two days of downpour in Florida, NASCAR made the call to delay the event. Fans shouldn’t fret though as drivers will take their marks, get set and go on Monday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. Eastern on FOX.
Several streaming services will broadcast the Daytona 500 live, and you can watch for free on Fubo and DirecTV Stream, or on Sling, which features promotional offers for new customers.
The first of two NASCAR Cup Series races at the Daytona International Speedway (the Coke Zero Sugar 400 is the other), the Daytona 500 is the most prestigious race on the NASCAR calendar. It’s Sunday race time, however, was in jeopardy all week because of the weather forecast.
What hasn’t changed is that the first two grid spots belong to Ford after Joey Logano and Michael McDowell put up the two fastest qualifying times in their respective Mustang Dark Horses. While Chevrolet has traditionally dominated the field in terms of numbers, Ford has it beat this year with 15 racers to Chevy’s 14.

The race had been scheduled for Sunday afternoon, although the weather forecast put that in doubt all week. The final practice for drivers was canceled Saturday, as was the Xfinity Series race.
The Xfinity Series race is now scheduled to be held Monday morning, hours ahead of the 4 p.m. start for the Daytona 500.

The last time the Daytona 500 was postponed a full day was in 2012. NASCAR completed 20 laps in 2020 before rain halted activity, and the race resumed the next day.
In making the early call Sunday, NASCAR prevented fans from sitting in the rain awaiting a decision on whether the race would proceed. It continued a willingness NASCAR exhibited earlier this month when it moved the exhibition Clash at the Coliseum up a full day on little notice because of poor weather headed toward Los Angeles.
Added Spire teammate Carson Hocevar: “Unfortunate cards we have been dealt as a sport, but probably the right call. Feel bad for the fans that saved up for this trip and now can’t stay.”
Despite the postponement, NASCAR and Daytona continued many of the prerace activities, including celebrity visits from singer and Trackhouse Racing co-owner Pitbull and actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Pitbull’s prerace concert was scrapped. He already agreed to return next year and perform then. Johnson is the race’s grand marshal, tasked with delivering the command for drivers to start their engines.
“Everything happens for a reason,” said Madison Marsh, the reigning Miss America who was scheduled to drive the pace car and lead the field to the green flag. “Although I would have loved, obviously, to get to drive the pace car, there have been so many other parts of this weekend that have been fantastic.

Spire Motorsports driver Zane Smith offered on social media to mingle with fans Sunday.
“Hate the rain won today but going to try to make the most of it and meet some of you guys,” Smith tweeted. “Let me know your camp spot and I will try to come find you! Might be able to drag a few other drivers along too.”

A rain-soaked Saturday and the threat of more wet weather on Sunday prompted NASCAR to push the 66th running of the Daytona 500 to Monday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway. It will be a busy day at the track with the NASCAR Xfinity Racing Series season opener, the United Rentals 300, now set for a Monday morning start. Joey Logano won the pole in Wednesday's single-car qualifying with Michael McDowell securing the outside of the front row. In Thursday's duels, Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell scored the positions in the second row. Logano is looking for his second win in NASCAR's Super Bowl after taking the checkered flag in 2015.
Defending NASCAR Cup champion Ryan Blaney starts near the back of the field in 32nd after being caught up in a wreck late in Thursday's qualifying race. Ricky Stenhouse Jr., whose win at Daytona was his only victory in 2023, starts 35th.
Denny Hamlin is looking for a fourth career win at Daytona while some notable drivers are looking to break through. Kyle Busch has never won in 18 starts in the 500 while Brad Keselowski is winless in 14 starts and Martin Truex Jr. hasn't won in 37 career starts at Daytona overall.
Jimmie Johnson, a seven-time Cup Series champion and two-time Daytona 500 victor, got into the race through speed in the qualifying duels and is a significant underdog. But his credentials make him impossible to ignore as a potential surprise.
